PRIEST, Margaret (nee Swinton)
February 22, 1932 – February 21, 2025 – It is with great sadness that the family of Margaret Priest announce her passing on February 21st at the age of 92 at Grove Park Nursing Home in Barrie. With sadness in loss comes peace, knowing that Margaret is in the arms of her husband, Howard Clair Priest, and her sons Howard (Alice) and Louis (Geraldine) Priest. Margaret will be lovingly remembered by her daughter, Constance Huggins, her grandchildren, Jennifer (Guillermo) Carpio-Priest, Jim (Kelly) Priest, Natalie Priest, Chantal Keeting, Katlynn (Tony) Malatesta, Corey Huggins, Matthew (Sadie) Priest, Adam Priest, and Andrew Priest, and by her 9 great-grandchildren. Margaret will also be missed by many cousins, nephews, nieces, and friends, with special mention to her nephew, Bruce (Anna) Nelson, who was a constant source of adventure and friendship.
Born in Stayner, Ontario to Louis and Pearl (nee Innis) Swinton as the youngest of nine sisters, Margaret enjoyed the special distinction of being “daddy’s little girl.” Margaret and Clair raised their family on their farm in Minesing. A proud homemaker who whipped-up holiday-sized meals each day for her family and the farmhands, Margaret’s cooking was loved by all and never skimped on the salt or butter. The only rival to Margaret’s abilities in the kitchen was her unofficial position as a professional shopper. She has the fabulous wardrobe to prove it. A faithful parishioner of St. Peter’s Anglican Church in Minesing, a Florida snowbird, and a traveller, Margaret enjoyed these moments to the fullest, and always did so in song. After spending over 70 years on the ninth line, her final years were spent at Blue Mountain Manor and Grove Park Nursing Home. A very grateful thank you to the wonderful staff at Grove Park Home for their love and kindness to Margaret in her time of need and care.
Friends and family were received at ADAMS FUNERAL HOME, 445 St. Vincent St. Barrie on Friday, March 7, 2025 from 12 to 4 pm with light refreshments. Interment at Minesing Union Cemetery and a small family gathering on the farm will be held in the spring. Memorial donations to a charity of your choice would be appreciated by the family.
