KILLING, Elizabeth (Beth) Howard
April 20, 1924 – May 16, 2024
We are sad to announce the death of Elizabeth Howard Killing (nee Telfer) on May 16, 2024 at the Villa Care Centre in Midland. She was pre-deceased by her dear husband Victor (1916-2014) a few months after their 70th wedding anniversary. She will be truly missed by her three sons Peter (Rebecca), Andrew (Sharleen) and Steven (Margaret), her grandchildren Sarah (Stephan) Kuppens, Deborah (David) Allan, Jason (Sarah), Jonathan (Christine) and David (Meaghan) and great grandchildren Alex, Ollie, Naomi, Nathan, Sean, Ella, Roan, Sophie, Kayla and Ramona. Much loved sister of Keith (Rose) Telfer (to Beth he was “Butch and he called her “Teddy”).
Beth was born in Toronto on April 20, 1924 – we recently had the privilege of celebrating her 100th birthday! She grew up in the Beaches area of Toronto and met Vic when he was working as a draftsman for her architect father, Forrest. They married in 1943 while Vic was in active duty in the Canadian Navy, stationed in Halifax. After the war, they lived in what was then the outskirts of Scarborough, and later in London, Ontario where Beth was a librarian at London Central Secondary School and then the London Public Library. Beth and Vic moved to Midland in 1981 to a house Vic designed on 25 acres near Waverley. Children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren have fond memories of spending time at this home, sharing their passion for reading, weaving, crafts, walks in the woods, excellent natural food, croquet, and lots of love. They enjoyed extensive travel around Northern Ontario and the East Coast in their fitted-out van, and to England and Switzerland to visit family.
Cremation has taken place and as per Beth’s request, there will be no formal Funeral or Celebration of Life. We wish to thank the staff at the Villa Care Centre who provided such wonderful care during the last stages of Beth’s life. Donations in Beth’s memory may be sent to The Nature Conservancy of Canada or the Villa Care Centre.
