JOHNSTON, Alan Graham

Alan Graham Johnston passed away at RVH August 10, 2024 at the age of 99. Alan is survived by his wife Donna (nee Priest). They were married almost 72 years. Alan was the loving father of Cathy Walton (Terry), Gary Johnston (Rita), Colleen Johnston, the late George Johnston (Blanche), and Hugh Johnston (Christy). Alan was grandpa to Lee, Anne, Melissa, Scott, Stephen, Jennifer (deceased), Julie, Collin, Graham, Mitchell, Cameron, Owen, and Cole, and great grandpa to 11 great grandchildren.

Alan was born June 29, 1925 at Royal Victoria Hospital in Barrie, ON. He enlisted with the Canadian Army in the Infantry in January 1945 where Alan won the Cross Rifles and Crown. Alan and his father George G. Johnston ran the Minesing Basket Factory. When it closed down Alan went farming at the age of 30, a decision he was always glad of.

Alan served in Vespra Council for 12 years; 4 of which were as Reeve. Alan had an amazing knowledge of history.

The family wishes to extend heartfelt thanks to friends for all their support and to the Integrated Stroke Unit at RVH for their care.

Visitation will take place at Adams Funeral Home in Barrie Friday August 23 from 1-3, followed by a private graveside service at Minesing Union Cemetery.

Memorial Donations in lieu of flowers would be appreciated by the family to the Elmvale Food Bank, Hospice Simcoe or a charity of your choice.
