CONN, William George
October 12, 1948 – December 13, 2024
With great sorrow we announce the passing of a wonderful gentleman who will be missed tremendously. George Conn of Elmvale passed away unexpectedly on Friday, December 13, 2024 at the age of 76. He was a dedicated and loving husband to Sandy (nee Handy) whom he shared 55 amazing years of marriage with. A proud and respected father to Rob and his wife Debbie and Shannon and her husband Kevin Fay, and a most loving Papa to his grandchildren, Jacob, Darcy, Garrett Fay, Dalaynie and Makayla Conn.
George was a warm and loving family man who always put his family first. His children and grandchildren considered him their Hero. He was very proud of his grandsons’ achievements and his granddaughters were the apple of his eye. He rarely missed an opportunity to spend time with any of his grandkids. His strong hugs and great smile will be forever missed and never forgotten. He will be lovingly remembered by his brother Jim (the late Sandra) and his in-laws Brian and Carolyn Handy, Dianne and Tim Columbus, Brenda Handy and Howard Sage and Mike and Cheryl Handy. George will remain in the hearts of his nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends. He will be reunited with his brother Mike (survived by Marj), his parents Bill and Gloria Conn and his mother and father-in-law Leonard and Doreen Handy.
Though family came first for George his community was a very close second. His favourite time was spent at the hockey rink, baseball diamond or curling club. He enjoyed cheering on all players, but especially his grandkids. He found a passion in coaching and he made an impression on all of the athletes that he coached. This became more evident recently as he was inducted into two categories with the Springwater Heritage Sports Hall of Fame. George loved to socialize and enjoyed morning coffee with friends at The Four Corner Tea Room. He was a loyal employee for 51 years, very proud of his job and truly enjoyed working for multiple generations of the Hanna family at Hanna Motors in Collingwood.
As a Husband, Dad and Papa, he has inspired his family to be better humans. He never placed judgement. He was caring. He was a good listener. He wanted people to be happy. He accepted anyone that crossed his path. He will be missed!
A visitation will be held at Lynn-Stone Funeral Home in Elmvale on Thursday, December 19th from 1-3 pm and 6-9 pm. Funeral Service at Elmvale Presbyterian Church on Friday at 11 am, followed by a time to celebrate George’s life at the Elmvale Lions Club Hall, 1979 Flos Rd. 7 W., Elmvale.
