BEATTY, Robert “Bob” Jack

It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of Robert Jack “Bob” Beatty.  At the age of 92, Bob passed away peacefully at Port Perry Hospital on May 9th, 2024. Bob is predeceased by his beloved wife of 68 years, Carol Eleanor Beatty. Loving, supportive father of the late Robert Roy “Bobby” Beatty, James Bernard Beatty, Linda Charmaine Raeburn (Chris).  Proud Papa of Melissa Hargreaves, Amanda Hargreaves (Kaine Nelson), Christina Beatty/Carvalho (Danny) and the late Patrick Beatty. Adoring Great Grandfather/Papa of Mikayla/Sky Beatty Hargreaves and Ciara Hargreaves.

Son and only child of Elva and Roy Beatty, Bob was born in North Bay Ontario where he was raised until 11 years old and then moved to Toronto.  Fond recollections of his school days and companions at Drewry P.S., Earl Haig Secondary and the subsequent Newtonbrook gang were forever prominent and these friendships were fostered throughout his life.  Bob and Carol were married in 1954 in Willowdale and later moved north to the Barrie area where they resided, worked and raised their family.  Bob and Carol spent their weekends and summers at Rose Lake – Utterson, Ontario, a unique cottage community where many fond memories and traditions were made and continue with the Rose Lake family – such as the annual Thanksgiving dinner and hike.

Bob was actively involved in hockey throughout his life dating back to playing pond hockey as a boy, then the Newtonbrook days, followed by teams and leagues throughout Simcoe County.  He also travelled to numerous tournaments all over Ontario as well as Lake Placid and successfully organized a tournament for 40 years – where Bob would remarkably coordinate 50+ teams over a double rink.   Bob also loved golf and cherished his time as a caddy at the Canadian Open.  Music was also a huge part of his life and Bob has passed on his passion for Big Bands and other genres of music to all that knew him.

The Beatty family would like to sincerely thank the medical team and entire staff at Lakeridge Health – Port Perry Hospital for their exceptional, compassionate care along with his dedicated PSW team over the last year. Further, we extend enormous gratitude to Community Care Durham, and in particular Jay, for the engaging conversation and valued companionship provided to Robert this past year.

Funeral Service was held at the Stephenson Memorial Cemetery in Port Sydney Thursday May 16th at 1 pm.  Reception followed at the Huntsville Royal Canadian Legion. To honour Bob’s passing or as expression of sympathy, donations in his memory to the Terry Fox Foundation would be greatly appreciated.  With his tremendous admiration of a true hero and devotion to the cause, Bob never missed a Terry Fox Run since its inception in 1981…be it walk, run, wheel or ride, with family by his side.
