FINLAY, Robert George
January 17, 1954-October 9, 2024
Bob has ended his 12 year struggle with early onset frontal, temporal dementia.
Bob was born and raised on the Finlay Farm. He enjoyed raising pigs and beef cattle. He also spent a few years cash cropping. Bob’s heartfelt wish was to die a farmer, but his dementia diagnosis forced him to retire at 60.
Bob enjoyed sports of all sorts, from school years involvement with basketball, volleyball, track and field, soccer and baseball. In his adult years, Bob played hockey, baseball, broom ball and flag football. In University he competed with a square dancing team. We enjoyed cycling and square dancing as a married couple.
Bob enjoyed playing guitar, making up songs about friends and family, even rock and roll nursery rhymes for his children. He had a great sense of fun. He would lend a hand to neighbours at the drop of a hat. One of his memorable adventures was bicycling from B.C to the farm in the seventies. White water rafting, kayaking, canoeing and travelling around Orr Lake on the SS Porky Pig challenged his adventuresome spirit.
Bob will be greatly missed by his wife Cindy, married 38 years. He leaves behind his son Austen (Jeffrey Tchen) and daughter Katie (Jason). He was Grampa to two beautiful grandchildren, Hannah and Callum. Bob was one of five siblings, Sandy (the late Bill), the late Suzanne (Doug), Cathy and the late brother John. He is predeceased by his mother and father, Emily and Alex. Bob will be missed by his many nieces and nephews.
Bob is being cremated. A Celebration of Life will be held at the Elmvale Lions Club Hall on the 7th concession from 2 pm – 4 pm, on Saturday, November 30, 2024. Donations, if desired can be made to Elmvale Sledge Hockey or Canadian Foodgrains Bank to honour Bob’s involvement with both.
Special thanks go to the wonderful staff at Hillcrest Village Care Centre for their kindness and care shown to Bob in his final year.
