CARROLL, Maureen Patricia
Maureen Patricia Carroll passed away peacefully with her loved ones by her side on Friday July 12, 2024.
Maureen’s life was a testament to love, dedication, resilience and strength. She was a strong willed, spitfire of an Irish woman who loved her family, getting together with friends and having a good laugh.
Maureen Tracey was born in Dublin Ireland on July 14, 1932. She was the eldest daughter of Elizabeth and Daniel Tracey’s six children. Maureen’s siblings include brothers Stephen, Danny and Anthony and loving sisters Lily and Clare. As a young girl Maureen took on much responsibility for her siblings when her mother became gravely ill. She began working as a seamstress at the age of 14 and was also a champion Irish dancer.
In 1952, Maureen met the love of her life, John Carroll. Two years later, the couple travelled to Canada to start a new. They married in 1955 and had four children: Barry (Joanne) Rory (Debbie), Deirdre (Don) and Maureen (Paul) while living on Jasper Ave in Toronto. After moving to Malton in 1969, the Carroll Clan was complete with the birth of their fifth child, Ursula (Dave). Once her children were older, Maureen ventured into the workforce as everyone’s favorite cafeteria manager at the two local High schools, Morningstar and Westwood Secondary.
Maureen delighted in spending time with her grandchildren. She was “Nan” to thirteen: Dana, Jessie, Nichole, Rory, Shannon, Sean, Sinead, Andrew, Michael, Adam, Spencer, Nathan & Ben, and G-Nan to fifteen great grandchildren. They all knew that Nan and G-Nan’s place was where to find the best treats, where to come for a good laugh, a warm hug and where a visit always ended with a “God Bless.”
Maureen will always be remembered as a beautiful, spunky, Irish woman who loved life and was not afraid to tell it like it is. She had an impeccable sense of style and always took great pride in the way she looked. She will be remembered not only for her outward elegance but for the warmth and love she shared with everyone she encountered.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the wonderful staff at the Sera Vista Nursing Home where Maureen resided over the last two years.
The family will receive friends on Monday, July 15th from 6:00-9:00 PM at the Lynn-Stone Funeral Home in Elmvale. A funeral Mass and graveside burial will take place at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Phelpston at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, July 16th
