Annie’s Journal- by Annie Warner Donnelly
Hello Everyone, especially Dads! We sometimes forget that Dads began as little boys.
Dads, did you race around your yard playing Hide and Seek? If you did, when you were “it” and covered your eyes, did you peek between your fingers so you could watch where someone hid?
Did you ever hit a home run or score a winning goal; fill a stamp collection book or collect coins that you still have? Did you collect marbles? Did you go fishing or hunting, or sail toy boats, or anything that would float? Do you remember climbing trees and building forts?
Dads, were you more excited about action than talking; about running and climbing and tumbling than reading a book; about building things and taking things apart; or about scaring the girls with snakes or worms?
Thinking about Dads as boys gives us another view of God. Dads, you’re made in God’s image. How full of curiosity and creativity, energy and laughter, joy and persistence; how full of life God must be to have created little boys!
On a day when we celebrate Dads, we know that some of you are separated from family by painful relationships, memories or illness; some of you may not see your children. Some of you are soldiers deployed to countries far away on land, on the seas, or in the air; are first responders or health care providers; will have other responsibilities that will keep you away from home on Father’s Day.
Dads, my hope for you wherever you are, is that you know that you are loved. Your Heavenly Father’s heart is filled with love for you! No matter what the circumstances, or what words may have been spoken to you, you are loved!
Whether your need is for safety in a war zone; for relationships to be restored; or a return to good health, I am asking God to comfort you; to meet your needs; and to pour His perfect love and peace into your life, not just on Father’s Day, but always.
Dads, you’re precious! May God bless you for your faithfulness to all that’s good in the world! Amen.
