Elmvale BIA to Continue the Elmvale Farmers’ Market
Elmvale Ball Park Lighting Project Making Excellent Progress
By Adrianna MCGinnis, April 19, 2025 –
The Elmvale Ball Park Committee is excited to share that our fundraising campaign to install new overhead lighting at the ballpark, located behind the arena at 14 George Street, has exceeded expectations. The current lighting system, installed in 2002, has served the community well for 23 years. However, it is now due for an upgrade, as the outdated fixtures present a safety concern for all users of the ballpark.
We are pleased to report that, to date, we have successfully raised $100,000. This incredible progress would not have been possible without the generous support of local businesses, community groups, and individuals. Donor recognition will be announced in the coming months.
The project is scheduled to be completed in May 2025. The Elmvale Ball Park Committee is excited to have awarded the installation contract to a local company, Fleming Electric from Elmvale. With their expertise, we are confident that the new lighting system will be installed efficiently and safely.
A sincere thank you to the Township of Springwater for their generous contribution of $38,000, including a portion from the Springwater Hydro Reserve Fund. We also extend our gratitude to the other donors whose support has been instrumental in advancing this initiative.
This project highlights the exceptional collaboration within our community, fostering the continued growth and expansion of recreational opportunities for both youth and adults in Elmvale and the surrounding areas, all set within the Flos Agricultural Society fairgrounds.
Jeff Lees, a member of the Elmvale Ball Park Committee, expressed his gratitude: “We are deeply thankful for the overwhelming support from our community. The new lighting will enhance the experience for both players and spectators, allowing for longer play and improved visibility during evening games.”
Andrew Priest, also a committee member, added: “This project stands as a testament to our community’s unwavering commitment to enhancing local facilities. We are excited to witness the positive impact it will have on the ballpark and the overall well-being of our vibrant, active, and engaged community.”
Along with the lighting upgrades, additional improvements will be made to the diamond to ensure its long-term sustainability for future generations.
Save the Date!
We invite the community to join us on Saturday June 21, 2025, for a “Light the Ball Park” event to celebrate the amazing community collaboration and successful completion of the Elmvale Ball Park Lighting Project. This event will be a wonderful opportunity to come together and enjoy the newly upgraded facility. More details will be shared closer to the date.

HCES HAWK TALK
Article Written by Grade 4 Huronia Centennial Elementary School Students, Emma Cole and Charlotte Laurin
April 21, 2025
Welcome to our Huronia Centennial Elementary School’s “Hawk Talk!” We have been very busy at our school with staff and students involved in many activities. As part of our eco initiatives at our school, we participated in The Great Big Crunch! This involved every student and staff member in our school taking a bite of an apple at the same time. What a big CRUNCH sound we heard! This helped our students learn about healthy eating and how we can support our farmers by buying locally. Both our Eco Team and Leadership Team have been working hard to organize our Earth Day celebration on April 22nd. We will be spending time outdoors doing nature craft activities, fort building with sticks, nature games and scavenger hunts.
We have had a lot of sports happening in our school with students in Grades 3-6 demonstrating their quickness and strength in our wrestling program. Our school has had a wrestling team for 18 years. There are 24 wrestlers on the team and the team has been practicing preparing for an upcoming tournament. Coach O said he loves being able to give back to the sport he loves and giving the kids a skill that they can carry on for the rest of their lives.
The Junior Girls Basketball team are having a fun season and have had some close games with 2 wins, 2 losses and 1 tie. Coach Isaac congratulates the hard work her team has shown this season and said the best thing about coaching is watching the girls improve.
The Junior Boys Basketball team have had some steady practices of shooting, lay-ups and passing and are getting ready for their upcoming tournament. Their record so far has been 3 wins, 3 losses and 1 tie game. Coach Cook said the best part of his job is teaching the students new skills.
Our school has a wonderful program called Mindful Morning. Parent Volunteers and staff members run this twice a week. Students arrive at school and come right in to enjoy some healthy snacks like apples, oranges, bagels, muffins, cereal and granola bars. We even have Waffle Fridays sometimes! None of the food is wasted because food scraps go to feed Mrs. Dermott’s pigs and Ms. Dumais’ chickens.
We also had a dance-a-thon in March with Professor Jamz. We want to thank our School Council for organizing such a fun event. All grades had their time in the gym dancing with glow sticks to some of their favourite tunes! Our School Council even had special yummy treats for all students after the dance.
Our HCES musicians are hard at work preparing for a number of performances in the coming weeks. This includes the Maple Syrup Festival concert at EDHS on Friday, April 24th, Music Monday on May 5th in our own gym, and the Midland Music Festival.
Thanks for reading our first article. We are so lucky to live in a community that is so supportive of our school! Stay tuned for the next one!
