The results of the round robin portion of the tournament were in and the Coyotes would face South Grey again in the final.  The coyotes new they would face a strong test from the Spartan’s during their second head to head matchup of the day.  The coyotes hit the ice for the finals in the hope of capping off a perfect season and playoffs with a championship.

The final game opened up and the Spartan’s jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead in the first period and a third goal in the second period to take a commanding 3-0 lead.  The Coyotes didn’t give up and continued to battle in the second period, when Scott Popple finally opened the scoring for Elmvale on a quick shot from the point with assists going to Chase Culbert and Landon Phillips.  The second period came to a close and the score was now 3-1 for South Grey.

Elmvale turned it up quickly in the third period and less than a minute in to the frame Draper Temolder fired a shot to the back of the net bringing the team within one goal.  The game went back and forth with Gunner Ververs making some huge saves to keep Elmvale in the game.  Then with 4:30 remaining in the third, Landon Phillips broke free and scored to tie the game.  The remaining time settled nothing and the game was headed to a 10:00 minute overtime.

The pressure of the game could be felt in the building and fans, parents and coaches were on the edge of their seats.  Both teams battled hard during the overtime and goalie Gunner Ververs once again made some huge saves to keep the game tied.  The game went back and forth and with 2:22 remaining in overtime South Grey took a penalty.  The Coyotes lined up for a faceoff in South Grey’s end and went on the attack, Elmvale’s forwards were buzzing all around the net and the puck came free to the point when Popple took a hard shot over the net and the rebound was gathered up by Wyatt Coughlin who tucked it in to the open net passed the goalie!
