The true meaning of Christmas

May I please remind us that Christmas is the celebration of the birth of Christ.

The true meaning of Christmas is love, yes – God’s love shown to us in sending His Son Jesus to earth.

We celebrate Christmas out of gratitude for what God did for us, we remember Jesus’ birth by giving each other gifts, worshipping Him and being especially conscious of the poor and less fortunate.

Why did God send Jesus? Because He loves us “For God loved the world so much that he gave his only Son …” (John 3:16a)

Why is Christmas necessary? Because we need a Saviour. God loved His own and provided a way—the only Way—for us to spend eternity with Him, “… everyone who believes in him may not die but have eternal life.” (John 3:16b)

He gave His only Son to take our punishment for our sins. He paid the price in full, and we are free from condemnation when we accept that free gift of love. “But God demonstrated His own love for us in this: while we were still sinners, Christ died for us” (Romans 5:8)

As we give thanks for the love, joy and hope in our lives, let us keep the Christ in Christmas, for He is the source and true meaning behind all those wonderful things.
