Merry Christmas Minesing Moments Readers
By Lorrie Norwood, Dec. 16, 2024
Our great village of Minesing was filled with excitement last Friday night as our local farmers and neighbours came together to present the 5th Annual Tractor Parade to the people-lined streets. What a beautiful display of tractors covered in Christmas lights and decorations, floats with families and friends from our local farms, music to celebrate the season and elves collecting for the local Elmvale Food Bank. The organizer, Shannon Giffen, began this great tradition back during covid and each year since, our local farms have taken time and energy adding more floats and creativity to their machinery. We hope that this wonderful tradition continues for many years to come. Our Minesing community never ceases to amaze me with their generosity towards the food bank. The Rowland Brothers Movers were also decorated in the parade with volunteer elves and filled a good portion of the truck bed with donations. We were also lucky that Santa was able to take a quick trip down from the North Pole to participate with his good pal Swampy who also ventured out of the swamp to see everyone! Thank you to all involved in organizing and delivering such a great event. We cannot wait until next year and hope it’s bigger and better than ever!
Christmas has become a very different holiday for my family, we have gotten rid of the gift giving and focus more on our time together. As years pass it just makes it more sense to us that presence, not presents, is the focus of the season for us. However, with my new grandson, a few presents have made their way back under the tree for him. The excitement through a child’s eyes is so amazing. The lights on the tree and the man in the red suit, decorations and music all are new to the little ones. Whatever way you celebrate in your home and whatever works for your family, we wish you all the very best.
NEIGHBOURHOOD WATCH ALERT – Last Friday night there was a report of a vehicle right here in Minesing, who approached a woman walking her dog inquring if she wanted a ride with them. The OPP have been contacted and an investigation is ongoing. Be sure to keep an eye out in our communities, as I am sure Minesing isn’t the only one it’s happening to. If you have security cameras and ring cameras, it may be a good idea to check them regularly for suspect people and vehicles and make note of the make, model, colour and license plates in case something happens. Let’s keep our communities safe and be on the lookout. Sadly, we are past the time when we could say it wouldn’t happen to us because unfortunately it can.
For those travelling this season, leave early, take your time and arrive safely. Remember to make plans ahead of time if you are going to be drinking. There are many options to get home safe so do the right thing! We know that RIDE programs will be active for their annual Christmas crack down.
Until next time, from my family to yours, Merry Christmas and all the best for a wonderful season ahead.
