OPP HURONIA WEST OPP INVESTIGATING A FATAL TWO VEHICLE COLLISION

(TOWN OF WASAGA BEACH, ON) – The Huronia West Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is investigating a fatal two vehicle collision in Springwater Township.

On November 3, 2024, at approximately 4:20 p.m., members of the Huronia West OPP with assistance of Springwater Fire and Simcoe County EMS responded to a report of a serious collision involving two vehicles on Penetanguishene Road.

Sadly, as a result of the collision, a 43-year-old driver was confirmed deceased on scene by EMS. The 45-year-old driver, along with the 50-year-old and 14-year-old passengers in the other involved vehicle were transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The two adults were later transported by ORNGE Air to a trauma centre in Toronto.

A section of Penetanguishene Road was closed for several hours while OPP members trained in collision reconstruction measured and documented the scene.

The investigation is ongoing.

OPP Officers Investigating Late Afternoon Fatal Motorcycle Crash in Midland

November 2, 2024

(MIDLAND,ON) – Officers from the Southern Georgian Bay Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) along with County of Simcoe Paramedics responded at approximately 4:28 p.m. November 2, 2024 to a report of a single vehicle motorcycle crash on William Street, Midland.

The lone 37 year old male occupant of Midland was triaged at the scene and transported to an area hospital where he was pronounced deceased by attending physicians.

Members of the OPP Technical Traffic Investigations unit (TTCI) are assisting detachment officers into the cause of the crash. Investigators look into all factors that could have caused the crash including speed, helmet use, and the condition of the rider and motorcycle leading up to and including the time of the crash.

William Street in the area of Gloucester Street and Bayview Drive will remain closed for several hours while investigators complete their scene investigation and clear the scene of debris.

Three Suspect Descriptions

Investigators would like to thank to community for their continued assistance in this investigation and would like to provide the following information about the three suspects that has been obtained thus far.

  • Suspect #1 – white male, tall, skinny build, 25-30 years of age, wearing dark coloured clothing, possibly short brown hair and wearing black ‘Mechanix’ brand gloves with white writing and had possession of a firearm.
  • Suspect #2 – white male, obese build, 25-30 years of age, possibly reddish hair, wearing a red and white hat, gloves and dark clothing.
  • Suspect #3 – white male, 25-30 years

HURONIA WEST OPP ARRESTS UNREGISTERED NURSE WITH 19 CHARGES RELATED TO IDENTITY FRAUD

(TOWN OF WASAGA BEACH, ON) – The Huronia West Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has arrested an unregistered nurse with 19 charges related to identify fraud in healthcare facilities across Simcoe County.

Between September 2020 and April 2024, the individual secured employment as a nurse at multiple healthcare facilities, including long-term care homes, despite being unregistered and unqualified to practice nursing. To obtain employment, the individual falsified employment applications, certificates, resumes, reference checks and police checks by modifying the name to resemble active nurses with good standings.

Between 2020 and 2024, the individual conducted full nursing duties.

On October 24, 2024, the individual turned themselves into the OPP Huronia West Detachment.

As a result, Hailey ROBERTS, a 33-year-old from Tiny Township, was charged with:

  • Identity Fraud – five counts
  • Use, deals, acts on forged document – six counts
  • Obtaining by False Pretence – Over – four counts
  • Obtaining by False Pretence – Under
  • Assault with a Weapon – three counts

The accused was held for a bail hearing at the Ontario Court of Justice in Barrie.

The OPP believes there are more healthcare facilities that the accused has been involved in and is asking anyone with information about this or a similar incident to call the Huronia West OPP at 1-888-310-1122. Three Christian Island Residents Escape Serious Injury in Single Vehicle Crash in Tiny Township

November 1, 2024

(MIDLAND,ON) – Three Christian Island residents escaped serious injury yesterday after the east bound Concession Road 12 of Tiny Township Jeep they were riding in crashed into the trees at the intersection of Overhead Bridge Road near 10:46 a.m. October 31, 2024.

Officers from the Southern Georgian Bay Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) attended the scene along with Simcoe County Paramedics and Tiny Township Fire Service attended the scene and triaged two of the occupants and transported them to an area hospital for treatment of minor injuries sustained in the crash.

An investigation into the crash was conducted and a on scene search resulted in the seizure of a quantity of drug paraphernalia leading into an impaired by drug investigation by the officers.

Charged in this investigation is the driver Martin MONAGUE 55 years of Christian Island with the following offences.

  • Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs
  • Obstruct Peace Officer
  • Failure to comply with release order – other than to attend court

And Further with the following Provincial Offences of

  • Fail to surrender insurance card
  • Operate a motor vehicle without insurance
  • Class G1 licence holder – unaccompanied by qualified driver
  • Careless driving causing bodily harm

And Further with the Offence

  • Possession of a Schedule I Substance- Cocaine contrary to the Controlled Drug and Substances Act

The accused was further arrested on a outstanding warrant held by an western Canada police service in connection to an ongoing investigation in that jurisdiction.

The accused was held for a bail hearing and remains in custody to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice at a future date.

Devon ASSANCE 30 years of Christian Island who was a passenger in the vehicle was arrested on outstanding warrants held by a neighboring police service in connection to an ongoing investigation in that jurisdiction. The accused was released from OPP custody to the care and custody of the involved police service.

The third occupant in the vehicle, a 57 year old male was treated and released from hospital.

Midland Auto Theft and Break & Enter Investigations Lead to Arrest of Midland Resident

(MIDLAND,ON) – A theft of vehicle report to the OPP Communication Centre at approximately 8:26 a.m. October 23, 2024 resulted in members of the Southern Georgian Bay OPP Detachment attending an Ottawa Street Midland address to conduct an investigation. This investigation led to identification of a suspect and further to the recovery of the stolen 2014 Jeep which contained stolen property parked in front of a multi-resident residence on Elizabeth Street, Midland.

On October 24, 2024 officers were dispatched to the First Street and Yonge Street, Midland area for an unwanted persons call and located and arrested the suspect in the theft of vehicle investigation and released the individual with a future court date.

On October 25, 2024 at approximately 4:27 p.m. a community member observed an individual forcefully breaking into an Midland Avenue apartment and contacted the police. Responding officers located and arrested the suspect at the Midland Avenue apartment.

Charged in connection with both investigations is Clayton ARCH 42 years of Midland with the following offences.

  • Possession Property Obtained by Crime Over $5,000 – in Canada
  • Break, Enter a place – with intent to commit indictable offence

Both offences contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada

The accused has been released from custody and will appear before the Ontario Court of Justice  on December 5, 2024.
