Anten Mills News

It was a dark and dreary night. The rain was falling and the wind was picking up. A typical fall evening. Wait! This isn’t the beginning of a horror story. No, it’s the beginning of a wonderful evening enjoyed by the witches and their friends when they came together for the 2nd annual Witches Walk. Unfortunately the rain did begin as the witches started their walk through the village but that didn’t curtail the 20+ witches from having fun. Back at the community centre they danced and made memories as the local band, Bombshell entertained them under the pavilion. Being good neighbours, they cleaned up and left the park before 11PM ensuring everyone had a peaceful evening.

Then on Sunday it was the little ones’ turn. For them the sun shined and the temperature was great. Pumpkin carving, games, a Photo Booth were all part of the fun and to top it off when they got their passport filled, they went home with a fabulous loot bag.

Both events would not have been possible if not for the great volunteers who organized and looked after the events. A special thanks goes out to Casey and Colleen and the group that they had working on these programs. Their efforts are greatly appreciated. As well a thanks goes out to Lindsay’s family who donated over 100 pumpkins for the kids to carve. Their donation and the donations of those from the community who donated to the events is much appreciated.

It has been said before that we live in a fabulous community where people are not afraid to give of their time or make a donation when asked. A trend that is welcomed as is their energy. As a Community Recreation Association events that keep our community engaged are essential. A review of past events helps to ensure that everything is on track and make adjustments as needed. A general meeting of the Anten Mills CRA will occur on Tuesday, November 12 starting at 7:30 in the community centre and all are invited. Our council member Brad Thompson will be in attendance and is willing to listen to any concerns that you may have. An invitation has been extended to the new Director of Parks and Recreation however his attendance has not been confirmed. Should he attend it will be an excellent opportunity to hear his vision for the future of recreation in the township.

On the council agenda this past week was a request to finalize the new subdivision with the entrance from Wilson Drive. From the report on the agenda it appears that all the conditions have been met and the plan can be registered. That would mean that the lots could be sold and construction begun. Soon we could have new neighbours. As for the name of the street it will be called Davis Way in recognition of a Springwater resident who gave their life for our freedom during WW1. A fitting tribute.

Remembrance Day is on Monday, November 11. Their will be ceremonies in Elmvale, Barrie and at Springwater Provincial Park. The Springwater Provincial Park service is not organized by a Legion Branch but by volunteers. A refreshed group of volunteers has undertaken this year’s service and if you have gone by the entrance to the park over the past week you will have noticed that there are several enhancements to encourage attendance. The service will begin at 10:45 AM and admission to the park on November 11 is complimentary so please consider attending and remember those who have given us the freedom we have today.

If you are considering getting some Anten Mills cool clothing as a Christmas present this year then you better order now to ensure delivery in time. The clothing is well made and reasonably priced and with each item purchased, $5 comes back to support community activities. The website to purchase is antenmills.justadd1.com.

With Thanksgiving and Halloween behind us it is time to think about the Christmas activities in the village. Soon the lights will be installed on the tree in front of the pavilion. Our Christmas in the Village starts on Saturday, December 7 with the ever popular Tree Lighting and continues the next day with the annual Santa Claus parade. Entries for the parade have already started and should you require more information the contact email is antenmillschristmas@gmail.com. More information will be posted here and on the Anten Mills Community Bulletin Facebook page.

Our Springwater volunteer firefighters are again this year selling Christmas trees and urn greenery. The urn greenery is sold one day only and here at the community centre. If you are looking for a great deal on helping you get your home ready for the holidays then mark your calendars now and head over to the community centre on Sunday, November 17 starting at 10AM until they sell out which is usually before 2. You are not only making your home ready, you are also supporting the firefighters and their charities. Christmas tree sales will start November 30.

That’s all for this week. I hope to see you at a Remembrance Day service and on the 12th for the CRA meeting. Until then, THANKS for READING, BE WELL and STAY SAFE.
