Empowering Accessibility: County Secures Funding for New Wheelchair Tandem Bicycles

Submitted by County of Simcoe

Midhurst/September 27, 2024 – The County’s Simcoe Cycling Without Age program has received a significant boost from the Government of Canada’s New Horizon for Seniors Program.

The County is pleased to share that is has been awarded $25,000 through this program, which will be used towards the purchase of four wheelchair tandem bicycles. These bicycles combine the latest in cycling technology with the safe standards of advance wheelchair design, making the program accessible to even more residents. Features include pneumatic assistance steering braking systems for easy control, and a low centre of gravity for stability and weight distribution, making the bikes more agile and easier for volunteers to maneuver.

“Thank you to the Government of Canada’s New Horizons for Seniors Program for their continued commitment to improving the lives and experiences of our older adults,” said Warden Basil Clarke. “We’re grateful to be able to provide this important program to our residents and offer them the ability to get outdoors and enjoy their community.”

This project is funded in part by the Government of Canada’s New Horizons for Seniors Program.
