OPP Investigators Seeking Assistance In Midland Sex Assault Investigation

(MIDLAND,ON)- Investigators from the Southern Georgian Bay OPP Detachment are seeking assistance from the public after the OPP Communication Centre received a complaint of a sexual assault that occurred on August 31, 2024 at approximately 2:30 a.m.

A female victim was assaulted in the area of Hugel Avenue and Third Street, Midland. Investigators are being assisted by members of the OPP Forensic Identification Services (FIS).

OPP SEEKING PUBLIC ASSISTANCE FOLLOWING A FAIL TO REMAIN ACCIDENT

(SPRINGWATER TWP, ON) – Members of the Huronia West Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) are requesting the public’s assistance regarding a fail to remain accident.

On September 5, 2024, at approximately 10:00 a.m., members the Huronia West OPP responded to a report of a fail to remain incident.

The incident took place on Flos 7 East of County Road 27 in Springwater Township. A tow truck was recovering a vehicle from the roadway when a late model Ford Bronco with distinct oversized white rims, tires, white wheel well extensions, and a black soft top passed the tow truck unsafely and struck the tow truck operator. The suspect vehicle then fled the scene. Luckily, the tow truck driver was not injured.

Traffic Stop Leads OPP to Drugs and Weapons Seizure in Midland, Midland Resident Charged

(MIDLAND,ON) – A traffic stop by police of a speeding Dodge Dart on Yonge Street, Midland has resulted in the seizure of a considerable amount of street drugs, Canadian currency and weapons resulting in criminal charges for a Midland resident.

Two members of the Southern Georgian Bay OPP Detachment conducted the vehicle stop at approximately 8:16 p.m. August 28, 2024 resulting in the officers entering into a Highway Traffic Act investigation. During the course of this investigation, the officers entered into Controlled Drug and Substances Act (CDSA) investigation resulting the seizure of substances that appear to be Methamphetamine, Oxycodone, Heroin, Psilocybin and Cocaine along with drug paraphernalia. Also seized was a imitation .45 caliber BB pistol during this investigation. (see attached photograph)

Charged with the following criminal offences is Joshua LEMAY 35 years of Midland.

  • Possession of Firearm or Ammunition contrary to Prohibition Order
  • Fail to Comply with Probation Order
  • Possession of Weapon for Dangerous Purpose

And Further With

  • Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of Trafficking – Cocaine
  • Possession of a Schedule I Substance – Methamphetamine
  • Possession of a Schedule I Substance – Opioid (other than heroin)
  • Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of Trafficking – Heroin
  • Possession of a Schedule III substance for the purpose of Trafficking
  • Possession of a Schedule III Substance

Contrary to the Controlled Drug and Substances Act

A number of Provincial Offences violations were also noted during the investigation as follows.

  • Driving while under suspension
  • Fail to produce permit
  • Drive without proper headlights – motor vehicle
  • Windshield obstructed
  • Improper tires
  • Drive motor vehicle – no licence
  • Class G1 licence holder – unaccompanied by qualified driver
  • Operate a motor vehicle without insurance
  • Fail to have insurance card
  • Fail to surrender suspended driver’s licence

The accused was held for bail and will appear before the Ontario Court of Justice  at a future date.

Midland Residential Fire Claims Life of Homeowner

(MIDLAND, ON) – An early morning fire on Barnett Avenue, Midland has claimed the life of a Midland resident. Members of the Southern Georgian Bay OPP Detachment responded at approximately 6:27 a.m. September 1, 2024 along with Midland Fire Service and County of Simcoe Paramedics after neighbours noticed a fire at a nearby home and forced in the front door and called 911.

A 39 year old male who was later confirmed to be the resident of the home was located in the area of attached garage to the single story detached bungalow and was triaged and transported to an area hospital by paramedics where he was pronounced deceased by medical staff.

Although there are no signs of foul play, the ongoing investigation is being conducted by officials from The Office of the Fire Marshal (OFM) and a post mortem will be conducted by the Office of the Chief Coroner and the Ontario Forensic Pathology Service. at a future date, all in an effort to determine the cause of the fire and death.

PEDESTRIAN INJURED IN FAIL TO REMAIN COLLISION

(Wasaga Beach, ON) – A motor vehicle collision that took place on 68th Street North near Shore Lane in the Town of Wasaga Beach, in the morning hours of September 1st 2024.

At approximately 5:30 a.m. a group of pedestrians were walking on 68th Street North when a southbound black pick-up truck struck one of the pedestrians before fleeing the scene. The pedestrian, a 57-year-old male from Wasaga Beach, suffered serious injuries and has been airlifted by Air Orange to a Toronto area hospital for treatment.

Investigators believe that the involved vehicle may be a black Dodge RAM with front-end damage possibly including a broken window.
