Fun in Fundraising

Source: Elmvale & District Food Bank facebook

Sept. 3, 2024 – Ah!  The summertime backyard BBQ parties, friends gather, stories are told and there is always laughter. Every year friends come together to make sure that the memory of their good friends who have passed, are remembered and honoured. What a great way to pay tribute to those who were the best friends. Patti Belcourt and Greg Olson stopped by the food bank to make a donation of funds collected at a back yard BBQ they held in memory of Debbie Fox, Bobby Issacs, Danny “Gummy “ Rowat, Jeff Heron and Mike Stone. Patti Belcourt and Greg Olson came to the food bank to make a donation in memory of their friends.

Thank you and keep celebrating your friends they are part of your story!

Elmvale and District Food Bank wants you to know…

By Debbie Craddock

Sept. 7, 2024 – Our very supportive communities have been extremely generous over the summer months however there are still many vacant shelves at the food bank. And, our records indicate significant increases in the number of individuals and families that we are serving. For instance, the number of families that were served by The Elmvale and District Food Bank in August of 2022 had more than doubled by August of this year. Food insecurity is real and it’s growing, and it’s with your generous contributions that we are able to provide some relief for our neighbours and their families.

Thank you to the members of Simcoe County Beef Farmers for their wonderful donation of hamburger as well as to Stayner Meats for covering the cost of half the cutting and wrapping. Thank you to the organizers and all of the families of the Elmvale Tim Bit Soccer League for collecting and donating lots of goodies. Many thanks to Craighurst Foodland for sponsoring a Bottle Drive and donating the proceeds to our food bank. We are so thankful for Kathy and her team at the Goofy Newfie, Waverley. They held a Fill-A-Boat fundraiser and as a result presented us with a cheque for $1100.00, grocery items and 50lb of potatoes.

We also thank the participants of the annual picnic for Ontario Provincial Police Veteran’s Association-Chapter 18, who made a generous contribution. They collected enough food to fill a pickup truck along with more than $520. Thank you to Greg Olsen and Patti Belcourt who presented a generous cheque to the food bank. Funds were contributed by guests at Greg’s backyard barbecue held to honour friends who have passed away.

Please mark September 25th on your calendar. Springwater Firefighters Association will be holding their annual STUFF THE TRUCK event. They will be driving trucks throughout Elmvale, Minesing, Phelpston, Midhurst, Hillsdale, Snow Valley and Anten Mills beginning at 6 pm. More information and route maps can be found on the Township of Springwater website. Sincere thanks to the volunteer firefighters for their continued support to the food bank.

A special thank you to Hazel Weddell and her team from E. D. G. E who persevered with the garden beds at the food bank this year and saw a bountiful harvest of tomatoes, peppers, lettuce and cabbage. Families are ever so grateful when fresh produce is included in the packages.

Keep in mind that no donation is too small. Our friends and neighbours who depend on food banks truly appreciate the assistance.

The Springwater Farmers’ Market – Elmvale wraps up for 2024

Submitted by Matt Garwood

Aug. 30, 2024 – Before the 2024 Farmers’ Market season started, I was asked multiple times what the Market meant to the Elmvale community. The Market is a gathering place for residents, highlights local producers and assists in the economic growth of the area.

For 2024, the Farmers’ Market needed a new operator, and the Elmvale BIA stepped in and stepped up to ensure this annual tradition lived on. On behalf of the Elmvale BIA, I would like to thank our vendors, volunteers, community groups and visitors for your continued support of our growing Farmers’ Market.
