Midland Golf & CC hosted their annual Club Championship

By Brian Belcourt, reporter

August 7, 2024 – The Midland Golf & CC hosted their annual Club Championship over the Civic Long-weekend. There was some great play by a number of members. But one performance stands out as amazing.

Lucas Ross set a 105 year old scoring record (MG&CC was est. 1919) with rounds of 67, 66 & 70. Ended the tournament at -10. This is the best total score in the 105 year history of the golf course. This is an accomplishment that needs to be celebrated.

Dufferin Simcoe Rockers at the CNOBF National Championship

By Brian Belcourt, reporter

Aug. 13, 2024 – The Canadian National Oldtimers Baseball Federation (CNOBF) National Championship tournament is an annual event which is played every August long weekend.  It is a pay to play event.  There are no regional qualifying tournaments.  The tournament has a 3-year cycle.  Ontario, East Coast , West Coast.  The 2025 tournament will be played in Charlottetown, PEI, with the 2026 tournament expected to be played in Red Deer, AB.

The tournament was in Thorold his year and is for the following age divisions:  33+, 43+, 50+, 57+ & 60+.  All age divisions play the same weekend.  We try to keep the entire group in the same municipality, but lack of diamonds sometimes forces us to split up the age groups to different venues.

The triples team came out on top after seven weeks of spirited competition at the Midland Lawn Bowling Club. Congratulations to the winners and all 16 teams competing for the cup. Thanks also to Ron O’Sullivan for organizing the league.  A very big shout out to the Midland Canadian Tire store for sponsoring this popular league. This kind of community support reinforces why we all should be sure to shop local.
